Nature reserve
The airport road is the first kilometre of Basra most visitors see. The design treats it as one landscape: continuous planted medians, a tree line that shades the carriageway edge, and beside it a reserve of 730,000 square metres of native and drought-tolerant planting, with drip irrigation and low ground lighting. The reserve is designed to be maintained with local means and to grow denser with time.
